We have been reminded and taught of Tawakkul severally in the holy Qur’an and hadiths of the prophet Muhammad (SAW). We have also learned from the lives of the prophets of Allah as well as Sahabas how Tawakkul has perfected their relationship with Allah SWT.
In verse 3 of suratul Talaq, Allah says: “And whoever puts his trust in Allah, then Allah suffices him’ (Q63:3)
Similarly, Allah has expressed His love for Mutawakkils in Surah Ali Imran, verse 159 “When you are firm (in making a decision), then have tawakkul in Allah, for surely Allah loves the people of tawakkul.”
When Prophet Ibrahim AS was ordered to be thrown into flames by King Namrood, Angel Jibril visited him to ask for his final wish. He could have asked for anything, especially to be taken out of the fire. But our dear prophet said:
“Allah is sufficient for me, as He is, indeed, the best disposer of my affairs.”
Due to his unbeatable Tawakkul, Allah ordered the fire to cool off and Prophet Ibrahim AS came out unharmed.
Therefore, the significance of Tawakkul as Muslims cannot be overemphasized. But trusting in Allah’s plan is more than just a feeling. It is more than just the word of the tongue. It is our actions that speak volumes about our Tawakkul. How do you react to a test of faith?
How Do We Achieve And Maintain Tawakkul
Perfecting Your Relationship With Allah SWT: When a Mutawakkil devotes his time to learn about Allah SWT, he/she is perfecting his relationship with Him. Knowing Allah SWT implies understanding his powers and sovereignty. It is also finding comfort in the fact that he is the Almighty in all situations. Also, engaging in the remembrance of Allah by calling onto him for guidance and protection would further secure a good relationship with Him.
Accepting That Life Is A Test: In a temporary world full of challenges, our faiths are put to test. This is to measure our Tawakkul. Therefore, understanding that life itself is a test and the hereafter is the final abode is a good way to practice Tawakkul.
